This is an aspen bowl I turned early this year. It is in a southwest style with hemp bindings for an accent. About six inches tall and about nine inches wide. Finished with Danish oil.
I like the spalting in this piece. I have a much larger cottonwood bowl of a similar design. I'm holding out for when I stop off at a leather shop on the way home and pick up some rawhide. The bottom is round with no foot or rim.
This was inspired by a clay pot I saw while in Zion NP a few years ago hiking with the kids. The clay pot was bound with rawhide but I used hemp because it is still rustic and easier to find.

Like this alot. My wife turned a piece of box elder in a similar shape and when I showed her the picture she oowed and aawed and says she wants to do that with her piece.

Thanks Greg. I have a smaller piece out of Russian olive where the top is natural edge and the bugs had eaten so much of the wood under the bark that the rim is kind of lacy. I also made a long handle so it could be carried more like a bucket.
