My second try for the fall challenge. This one was going well until while shaping the base, I ran off the tool rest... oops! Base was not salvageable and the stem broke right at the base. After the challenge, I turned a new base for it and finished it. Black Locust with 5 captive rings. 7 7/8" tall by 2 1/2" diameter. Stem is 4 1/8" x 5/32" Sanded thru MM grits and finished with Formby's Tung Oil Finish.
Nice work. That stuff is hard to turn well. It finishes nicely if you can stop the tear out and have good tool control. The rings must have been interesting.
Live long, love lots, and turn fast.
