Both of these H F's are outstanding. I prefer the shape of the red cedar and the finish of the walnut. I feel that a flat finish accentuates the wood while the multicoat gloss seals it away, but I notice that glossy finishes tend to sell better. What tool(s) do you use for your hollowing?
I use a homemade articulated hollowing system called the steel snake from capt Eddie at the Bayou woodturners. Simple and easy to make your own..Bill..
I also like both of these vases. But I think I lean toward the Walnut just because I like the softer finish. But that's just a personal preference. For a gloss finish the cedar vase is about as good as it gets.
I also know how difficult it can be to photograph dark wood. I'm betting the the walnut vase is even prettier in person.
I also like both of these. One day I hope to be able to produce this sort of form and finish. Lovely job.
Ruining lots of good wood to get a few average bits.
