Here it is open. As you can see the tenon is not birch but walnut. Really made a nice contrast. When the birch tenon broke off, I first turned a small rabbit in the neck of the box. Then I quickly grabbed this piece of walnut that was close by and turned it to be the right size to insert into the top of the box. Once in place, I turned the inside to the size I wanted and smoothed the inside of the box neck. Fitted the lid to this new tenon and you see the results. Makes for a really nice surprise when you open this little box.
Way to make lemonade from lemons Rev. I think you were fortunate to have the old tennon break off as your repair makes for an outstanding little "surprise" box. Congrats on a fine piece...Bill...
