This is the second of this group. Not much of this old stuff left. Anyway, this one is 1 5/8" tall and 7 1/2" wide. It came from the other side of the beam from the other one. You may or may not be able to see the nail holes in it where something was nailed to this beam. Holes were filled with coffee and CA. Finish is, you guessed it, tung oil finish followed by Beall buff.
Thanks for the compliments guys. This pine is old growth yellow pine. There isn't any more of it. To get it you have to find it in an old building and recycle it. There is a company or two in the deep south that collects what they call sinkers, trunks that sank in rivers or lakes before they got to the mill. But, they are few and far between, and very expensive to say the least. The grain is very tight. The pitch pockets are still sticky. It turns like nothing else, jumping off the tool but has lots of areas of tear out. Sands pretty well even though it does load the paper quickly. Too bad it's all but gone. 8-)
