Box Elder w/Brazillian Rosewood finial

Box turned out not quite as wide as planned. I did get a good fit with the lid. Finial is a bit tall and is glued back together where it broke. The box elder had some cracking issues. One was my fault, the other likely came with the wood. Since coffee would have looked bad as crack filler, I experimented with pastel chalks and CA. Worked out well. Total height 7 3/4".

Thanks for the kind words.

Tom- The finial is not ebonized. This piece of BR was a cut off of a long pen blank. It was that dark without any help. I posted a picture of the pen made from it.

Something about this box reminds me of those buildings you see in pictures of Russia, almost an onion shape with a spire on top. I really like the design and the wood is beautiful.

I seem to like the Kremlin/onion dome shape for some reason. Not sure why but I find it pleasing. I like it on a wine stopper also.

I got the box elder from Hillbilly Red when I was at Philips for the symposium last summer. (Thanks Red!)

Really neat design! Which parts of the red/pink are natural and which are colored? The sharp color break is pretty cool.
