Well I messed up getting out of my vehicle and broke my original piece in two. I happened to run across a piece of wood on my parents front porch that looked as if it was spalted. Turns out it was. I was so happy. Well I turned the top and bottom side grain orientation and the stem is purpleheart. 7 1/2 inches x 3 1/2 inches. Will easily hold a 3 inch candle. Sorry Junior, hope you like this one too.
I don't know about Jr., but I like it even more. A couple of suggestions for you. Try making the top and bottom sections a bit more alike. You have two very different styles here and they try to compete with eachother. A second idea to work on is to make the stem blend into the top and bottom a bit better. If you look at the broken one, see how the stem blends into the base? On future pieces, try to blend it more like that. You're doing very well. Keep up the good work and progress. 8)
Funny thing is, I think I like it better upside down I don't mind the competing top and base, but the top in this picture with the single curve would look better as the bottom I think and would make it look less competitive. Other than that the only thing I would try to do is as Rev said and blend the pieces into the stem more or round them off so the stem appears to balance on them.
