This a shallow bowl measuring 220mm diameter and 40mm deep. My first attempt with this wood. The grain has a distinct holographic appearance that changes with the light.
It machines like any other Mahogany type wood.
Nice piece, love the shape and the color in the grain reminds me of imperial cedar which looks alot like Australian red cedar. When exposed to light, it'll change giving it "gold streaks" through out the piece. Wizzy
Looks like you've done a nice job generally. Could be some light glare, but it looks to me like you still have some tool and sanding marks. If that is what I'm seeing, then a bit more time with the coarser grits would make a world of difference. If it is the light making it look that way, then forget I said anything and my complements on a job well done. Shape looks great, btw. I like the design very much. 8^)
Thanks for the comments, Doug, you are correct about the tooling marks. They became much more visable after 24 hours, I assume due to finish settling or something!
Nice looking piece Nick.
Finish always brings out tool or sanding marks. One way to check is to wipe with DNA. It will show the marks and clean out sanding dust too!
