I picked up a second hand Archer carver & had to have a play, unfortunately the hole in this piece of Pohutukawa went from skin deep to a blow out when hollowing. The top is burnt for a contrast, the side is a Celtic knot carved & burnt, highlights are a burgandy acrylic, Comments appreciated
I'm not so sure your "blowout" isn't a fantastic character mark. I don't see the problem. So it won't hold soup. Every bowl doesn't need to. My feeling here is that you have a lovely piece that you can set out on the sales table and draw a handsome price for. You didn't give us the size, but I would think it could easily fetch $10/inch diameter plus another $50-$75 for the enhancements. A very nice piece for sure. 8^)
