Walnut Jewelry Tray with 3 eccentric rings done with a screw chuck. Some texturing and a maple finial (my first one). Thanks to Frank Penta who talked me into making a lid for the center.
11" dia. X 4" tall with the finial. The bottom has some decoration also. Finished with Tung oil and Beall buffed.
Thanks for looking and all comments are more than welcome, Don L.
Love thoese eccentric rings thats tricky to get right, nice piece of Walnut beautifull finished.:)
Don, with your Tung oil do you apply any sealer first, or, do you basicall wipe of straight away like Danish? (never used Tung before)
Peter - I use sealer sometimes. Usually on wood that will soak up a ton of oil, like cedar. Most woods I put it straight on (like this one). Typically 4 or 5 coats, let it cure for a week of so and then I Beall buff the piece. I swear by that Beall system, really makes a difference.
Thanks for that Don, I need to check out the Beall thing, I currently use a "mop" which seems to work OK for me, but always keen to learn something new
Cheers
the eccentric stuff is interesting, but makes my eyeballs wiggle..what I do find real pleasing are the 2 detailed areas (inner bowl & lid) and of course the wood is just gorgeous and you did a super fine job finishing it. Very pretty
