This is the second and last piece of maple I had that I thought deserved to have a ship on it. All the grain does the work. The only coloring is on the rim and the sun, which is a knot that's dyed two different yellows. It's 16" across and 2" tall. Finished with Tung Oil and Ren. wax. In person the waves have more of a rolling affect given the ample amount of chatoyance.
I suppose I should start naming some of my pieces. Does anyone have a better title than Sunset Voyage?
Thanks Brian! The woodburning is done before the finish for a couple of reasons. It would be hard to trace a pattern over the finish, and woodburning over it would smoke a lot and probably make some fire too.
Thanks for asking,
Don L.
Hi Chuck!
I tried all kinds of fancy shmancy, expensive papers and good ole carbon paper works the best for me. Kind of hard to find though. I found a neighbor who had some.
Thanks for asking,
Don L.
Just caught up with this one Don, I am trying a bit of burning & hope to get to your atandard some day. This is a realy fabulous piece & so restful on the eyes, it is framed perfectly to me.
The name is fine, others mabey "new adventures" "full sail ahead" (leave it as is)
