Wall Street II, Gun Metal and Gold, Black Chakte. Sanded through all grits of micro-mesh. Finished with Myland's Friction Finish. Done by request for customer to give as a retirement gift. Love these commissions. I love doing these for folks for several reasons. They give me an excuse to turn. They cause me to look for different woods I can use for pens all the time. They put a few dollars in the tool account. Best of all, they often lead to other sales. Then all the fun begins again. YAHOO!
As usual, questions, comments, and critiques are always welcome.
Jim, it does look a lot like walnut burl, but this is a totally different wood. The grain is much tighter and swirls more than walnut. The color is redder too. Dark and dense, turned very nicely, and sanded even better.
BTW, Jim King helped me out with the name, it is black chakte. I liked the way it turned and will get more if I get the opportunity.
