I've had this idea in the back of my head for a while. It is Russian Olive from a neighbor's tree that died. It is about seven inches wide by about six or seven tall. The lashing is jute twine. The wood is finished with Danish Oil.
I got the idea while on a little trip to Zion National Park. I saw something similar in one of the shops but it was made from clay and the artist had used rawhide. I made the bowl and then was thinking that I had the jute left over from something else and thought I'd have a go at it. I left the natural edge with the worm holes because I felt it added to the rustic character. I'm not sure if this is going out as a present or if this is a keeper for me yet.
Live long, love lots, and turn fast.
She's a keeper, Bob. Very unique work like this doesn't come along too often. It would look great in a perfect place in your house. Or mine. lol.
