This is a cedar hollow form hollowed out quite thin.
It stands 5" tall X 7" dia. I wanted to save the knot and got as much of it as I could given the shape of the wood. Finished with Tung Oil and Beall buffed. Thanks for looking and all comments welcome, Don L.
Thanks guys (except Ken-lol). I really had fun making this piece. A little nerve racking with those weird turns, but I'm pleased with the way it turned out. I don't know why cedar gets a bad rap with a lot of folks, I think it's a great looking wood and fun to turn.
Thanks again, I appreciate the comments. Even Ken!!
interesting piece Don.Yes cedar is pretty, but the color fades, which I think is why people shun it. But I agree with you, it makes pretty pieces. I like the texturing at the neck, but am undecided about the lower texturing. Not something one sees, so my eyeballs aren't ready yet! Nice job!
Michelle, I wish the photo position showed the texturing a little better but the top wouldn't show much if I changed it. The very bottom has a little bit too. I bet if you saw a side shot you'd like it. I didn't want to fill the gallery up with two photos, especially on the weekend.
so hard to see a whole piece with just one picture. I don't dislike it. From this view it seems out of balance to my eye. But a different shot it might look fantasstic. I know from my own pieces that proportion & color & design can look all out of whack in a picture. Again, REAL PRETTY
GOD! I LOVE that aromatic cedar! Beautiful piece.
