This is an Ambrosia Maple hollow form. 9.5" X 3.5". It's colored with black, red and yellow dye. Finished with Tung oil and Beall buffed. First time I tried multiple colors like this and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for looking and all comments welcome, Don L.
Don, I have been waiting for a very long time for you to produce a pile of *&*%$%^&%$, and am still waiting..........great work as always.
Ruining lots of good wood to get a few average bits.
Very nice work Don! I love the colors you were about to obtain and the rim fits it perfectly. Not sure if you are willing to share your process but I was wondering if you add the dye in layers or mix it all at once then apply. It might be a very stupid question and I would think it would be done in layers but . . . I'd rather hear it from an expert! If you aren't willing I understand, it takes a long time to get as good as you've become. Beautiful!
Carol - It doesn't take that long, I've been turning for just over a year now. As far as the colors go you're right about the layers, the black dye was put on first then sanded down, then the red and more sanding, then the yellow. I use alcohol dyes so the waiting time is but minutes in between. Any other questions, just shoot me a PM. Thanks for asking, Don L.
Gorgeous piece! I love everything about it. (Y)
