spalted maple bowl

this piece was requested by an old customer for her daughter. She wanted the bowl turned from "that wood with the black lines in it". She also wanted a flat rim and I could not talk her out of that. I just hate turning a flat rim, too many attractive options that look a lot better than flat! 10x2.75with wipeon poly and buffed.

I don't mind the flat rim at all on this piece, Bill. The spalting is sooo beautiful, it deserves some showing off. Nice job.

I like a simple flat rim on a great piece of wood. Sometimes the Spartan look let's the beauty of the wood shine through.

I'm with you on the flat rim. A bit of sloop to the inside would really add to this piece. BUT, the customer is always right. She wanted a flat rim, a flat rim she now has. Beautiful bowl. 8-)

beautiful wood, good turning & the flat rim is ok in my eyes as it does not detract from the glorious wood. It does give it a "utilitarian feel," but I still think the shape & wood make it a winner
