At 2:30 I began cutting this log. Cut 2 chunks and hauled them home. Cut these into two and then cut the pith out of all four. Sealed 7 and split the 8th in 2 so that I could do this project twice. Sealed one and took the other to the lathe. Piece is 7" tall and 4" diameter. Wild cherry tree came down in a storm shortly after the ice store in 2009. Still pretty wet. Sanded to 320 and finished with multiple coats of Velvet Oil. This is a memorial urn only since the family has already spread the ashes. Would love to hear your comments and questions.
Forgot to say that I walked into the house with the urn at 6:00 to eat supper and was totally done by 7:30. It really felt good to be @ the lathe again doing something that allowed a bit of creativity. SWMBO was impressed with how quick and the work itself. Hi praise indeed. 8-)
That was quick. I can't see enough to comment, other than the shape..the shape is quite pleasing, and the lid shape looks nice too..It looks a bit different than "usual", but appears to go well with the shape of the vase part. If you can get us all a better picture, we'd be able to give you a better review. But heck, sounds like you enjoyed yourself, & that's the whole reason to do it.
Yeah, the pic was last thing before bed last night. I set on the coffee table in the living room and shot it with my phone. I'll see if I can replace it with a better pic tomorrow. Thanks for the comments to this point. 8-)
From one urne maker to another. I know the emotional drain that these turns can take. I also know how much of your self goes in to this type of project.
Today is yesterday's tommarow.
Showed it to the man who is going to get this one or the other one that I still have to turn for him. He will keep one and his son the other. Both will get a pinch of ashes before we seal the tops on them.
