nice vase..pretty wood..I rarely like glossy finishes, as it usually highlights poor sanding, but this looks smoooothh ..I like the shoulder/neck curve..
Thank you for the comments. David, Acacia is one of my top four favorites here in the desert.
Michelle, sanding, oh what a joy! But you gots ta doit! I sand to 1000 usually. I have found that women are the primary art buyers or at least drive the purchase and they like gloss. I wish they didn't I spend more than 2-3 times more time on finish than on turning!
I hear ya..and yes, as "selling turners" we have to listen carefully to the gals..they do buy most of what I produce..and I'm sure others too. Most folks don't know good sanding/finishing, but they do know what feels good, when they pick it up. I do a lot of buffing (beall) to get the shine and even use brown paper bags (grocery). they are 12,000 grit to the best of my knowlege. Again a lovely piece
At 12,000 grit you are superior to me! The old saying, "I don't know much about art but I know what I like" is so true.
People will either love your stuff or say, "I could make that"!
Which reminds me of a sign I saw once at a show that said "Yes you probably could make this, but when would you?"
