This is my first real shot at woodburning other than a couple little cherries on an older piece. I wanted just the right wood for this and man, did I luck out! All the waves and background are all natural maple wood. Only the 2 colored rings and the wood burning itself were done by me. It's 15" diameter and finished with Tung Oil. I think I'll need a name for this...any ideas?
Thanks for looking and all comments welcome, Don L.
Frank: The colored rings are done with a special marker, I forget the name. It has a regular small marker on one side and a very pointed paint brush type tip on the other. That's the one I used. It was supposed to be a light blue and dark blue ring, but the wood made the big one green. At least that's what they tell me. Color blind ya know. I'm just glad it didn't ruin anything.
Phenomenal. I don't think luck had anything to do with it - you have to have an eye for it to make that come out the way it did. I'd be interested in the name of the marker, but I'd definitely not use it to make something blue! If I wanted green, on the other hand ..
Don that is a beautiful piece.
If you still need a title, what about "The Jouney"? It could represent many different journeys!
The waves don't look big enough to be called troubled seas, especially for what that vessel was designed to sail through. Looks like a fresh gale on starboard tack!
Thanks everyone!
Cathy, they're called Dual Brush markers by Tombow. That green ring still looks blue to me. Go figure.
Tom, Thanks, I like that one! It's now changed.
Dave and Herb, thanks so much.

Beautiful... just beautiful, I like everything about it. The colors are outstanding and the way you aliened the ship with the grain are spot on!!! ... how about calling her "Summer Wind"Wizzy
Hi Mike! Thanks a lot. "Summer Wind"...I like that one too. Maybe even "Journey in the Summer Wind". Kinda long though."Summer Wind's Journey". Hummmm.
Thanks my friend, Don L.
