I soaked it in dna 24 hours to help remove the sap. Wiped it dn with dna many times to keep the sap out of my sandpaper. Glad I finished the fat wood vase but probably wont do another. finished with 8 coats of poly. Herb
I like it. I hope your DNA soak did in fact get the sap out of the wood. Pine sap has a way of working though any and all finishes. Shellac is about the only thing I've heard of that will stop it from coming through. You've done a nice job and the finish looks great now. Well done. 8-)
Rev,Im hoping the sap wont come thru. The DNA did a good job of removing the sap. I then grain sealed it, then CA the whole thing before all the poly coats. I would pretty well bet it wont come thru but its well within the realm of posibility with Murphy's law and all.I'll let you know if the sap comes thru. Herb
Herb its a nice piece.
I made a large bowl out of fresh pine, once, only once. It took longet to clean up the lathe and wall anf my faceshield from all the pitch/sap. Never again. Hope you had better luck!
Yep the sap sticks to everything. when you step on it, its glued to your shoes. Gouges have to be constantly cleaned. Not something I care to repeat. BUT, It had great burl grain so I had to finish it. I imagine there isnt many things made from fat wood burl. If you try hard enough anything is possible.
