This is an 18" dia. Bubinga platter. Some different texturing on both sides. The bottom was turned on 3 axes to get that effect (4 counting the center position, and thanks to Frank Penta). A lot of fun to turn and finish a rich piece of wood like this. Hope you like it. Finished with Tung Oil and Renaissance Wax. Thanks for looking and all comments welcome, Don L.
Nicely done, Don. I really like your treatment of the top, but the multi-axis foot is something else. I'd be interested in how you accomplished that. An offset jam chuck, perhaps?
Hi Brad! I used a worm screw and drilled 4 holes. One was centered and 3 more were evenly spaced around it. I believe it was 1-5/8" dia. The bottom was turned first and is essentially 3 intersecting circles with the rest cut away using the center hole. It was then reversed and chucked in the recess (expansion jaws) to finish the top. Thanks for your interest, Don L.
Interesting is right! Even though you told us how you did that I still look at the3 bottom and say "How in the !@#$ did he do that. Awesome Don just Awesome !!!!........Andy
