from same tree as the piece posted by Gil. Just under 18" diameter. red spot is inlce to fill a large check. This was the first boiled to dry piece but I did not let this one sit as long as the one with the rim. Also the walls were thinner on this when I boiled it. Walls are 1/2" thickness. Finished with 3 coats gloss polyurethane, brush applied.
NIce bowl Phil and 1/2 wall should make it relatively light and easy to use for it's size. I'm not a fan of poly for bowls myself, but there definitely are buyers that are. This one should go quickly when someone sees it.
Very well done bowl, Philip! The finish looks smooth too (do you rub out and polish the finish between coats, or after the last coat?).
I am really itching to turn a larger piece.
That table must be the same one you photographed on before. If you could get rid of all the visual distractions, the bowl would seem to be floating on rippled water.
Nice thing about Polyurethane is no buffing or polishing required, just brush it on, in this case a foam brush was used. It does tend to run easily if your not careful. This one did and had to be resanded a couple of times.
