The Thomas Boyd Live Oak was one of the largest Live Oaks in Louisiana until Hurricane Gustav uprooted it in 2008. It stood proudly on the Louisiana State Capitol grounds. This desk set was hand-crafted from a cross section of the tree. It measures about 10" long and 6" at its widest point. The clock holder and pen were turned and the base was hand sanded and finished with multiple coats of BLO. A lot of history in this piece, enabling the tree to live on in another form. Comments and critiques are always welcomed. www.perfectwoodworks.com
A lovely desk set Leo crafted from some historic wood too. What more could you ask for. Haven't seen you around in a while sure hope you are back more often
Thanks for the kind words, Greatly appreciated. This piece has gone to the Louisiana Public Broadcasting Art&Travel Auction, as well as the emerging bowls. Hopefully the bidders will appreciate its historical value.
I wish all of the rest of the wood I harvested has this much figure. Most of it is clear grained and bland. It is what it is.
The pen funnel is from PSI. Only the tip rests in the hole; the rest of the pen stands proud.
