Black Walnut. When I put a little CA glue along the edge of the bark to make sure it didn't pop off, it drew the color out of the bark and stained the light sapwood. Even the sawdust from the bark discolored the sapwood. Has anyone had this problem and maybe have a solution? This is finished with minwax spray on poly.
There may be some stains somewhere, but that sure is a fine looking Natural Edge Bowl!! Nice smooth finish too. The bark is sooo thick (or it is a very small bowl), and you did a great job keeping it in place. What are the measurements? Was it green wood or dry?
Nice bowl Curt. Boy that is some thick bark! As far as the CA staining, try applying the glue with the bowl held upside down. It will run off the bark instead of down onto the bowl.
It's about 6.5" diameter and 2-3" tall. It was turned pretty green from a piece of log I sawed in half and cut round in about March. So it's had some time to dry out a little. The bark really is thick and seems to be pretty stable and solid. I have quite a bit more of this wood to play with.
