I have found that the ladies prefer simple lines and, from watching them choose, most prefer the longer stem. So, I make all my bracelet helpers long now and it's a simple matter to cut them shorter if required.
Yew, sanded to 500, cellulose sanding sealer and friction polish.
Very nice looking Brendan, but as usual I must make myself look even dafter, what is a Bracelet helper and how do you use them, never heard of um, but they look good anyway.
Ruining lots of good wood to get a few average bits.
Thanks Leo. A bracelet helper is just that. It is used to hold the eye link on a bracelet so that the hook clip can be attached and is held with the palm of the hand facing upwards and the crocodile clip at the inside of the wrist. It is long enough that the fingers can steady it. Get a pencil, lie it in the palm of your hand with the lead at your wrist and you'll get the idea. (A looooooooong time ago these were used for holding paper tubes with strange smoking material inside that made people feel happy).
Thanks Brad. Is there a big demand for them?...I don't know. I make these as gifts but something I've discovered is that most people know someone who could use one. I haven't sold anything yet because I don't think my stuff is good enough to actually take money off people but, were I to set up a stall these would definitely have a place. I've made some with acrylic pen blanks and they turned out very well but were expensive to just hand out. Another consideration would be the crocodile clips. The clips I used here are very good quality and have a strong 'bite' but that could be a problem for an older person - the market these would most likely be aimed at, so it might be worthwhile trying a few different versions out to see which feels best. The clip is doing no work as such, just holding a tiny bit of chain. The clip I used here is a 5amp which was the smallest I could get in the auto factors store. Another point, it's worth looking for a clip with a hollow end that accepts the electrical cable because some clips come with 2 sets of spades that fold over the wire to secure it. The hollow tube end is easier to locate in the wood and looks a bit better (well, to other turners anyway cos you know they are going to be squinting up the hole to see how you secured the clip).
Thanks Brendan, but from what I have seen you post I definately wouldn't sell my self short as far as quality goes, were I you. Now if you do it because your independantly wealthy, now that is another story. great job, kind of wish they fit in my line, I would add a couple...
Brad
'Independently wealthy'- now, that would be nice. I bought 2 lotto tickets tonight so, maybe, as I sit here without having checked my numbers, I'm a multi-millionaire...but somehow I doubt it.
