Cedar bowl

Like the vase, this was cedar my son and I salvaged. This was turned green, boiled for an hour, and finish dried with cycles in the microwave.

Lacquer finish with buffed wax.

My son has turned a couple pieces. I'm not sure if he's hooked yet. His thing is more wheel thrown pottery.

I'll work on the background thing. I don't have a good spot for that yet.

You don't need a "spot" for background; a folded white sheet can be draped over almost anything. I do it on the washing machine all the time.

Robert,
I like the shape for this piece. The accelerated curve towards the bottom visually lifts it up as opposed to having a "dead bottom". Nice job

Thanks Tom. All of the color and banding was a wonderful surprise as I turned these cedar pieces. I think that is one of the things that keeps me running back to the lathe. I love to "discover" what hidden piece is in there and what colors the wood will reveal.

Hey Robert,
Love the cedar pieces, cedar is kind of like cracker jacks a surprise in everyone. The turning looks pretty good in both, the finish needs a touch of work in both. As for back round I use an old light grey fleese pull over. It isn't as nice as a lot of the guys here use, but it seems to work for me. Shows the pieces good.
