About 7" tall by 4 wide. My son found the cedar by a local business. They had cut the tree down and we picked up what we could. The structure and color in this piece are something else.
Pretty piece and nicely turned. Cedar is fun to work with and makes the shop smell so good for days. Might I suggest on your next turn of this type try for an even break line where the finish goes into the mouth. The ragged finish line the mouth openning really detracts from the overall appearance...Bill..
Pretty piece of cedar you found there. I agree with Bill on the finish on the inside. I would suggest that you slop some finish in the inside and swish it around to cover the entire inside. You can pour out the excess and leave it at that. Ragged line just looks sloppy and undone. 8-)
This is very pretty. I agree with the comments above but the finish issue is an easy fix. On the colour...I am colourblind so the largest part of the wood looks like a pinkish-reddish colour. Is that correct? And, is it natural?
I agree with the comment about the inside. Easy to touch up later, that is if I can sneak it out of the house. I had to pry it out of my son and wife's hands to take the picture.
Brendan, yes the color is natural. The red has almost a little purple hue to it. I love the color of wood so all I've done so far with stains is try some ebonizing on a couple of pieces.
Live long, love lots, and turn fast.
