Carob natural edge bowl, 5" diameter x 4 1/8" tall at the highest point, 3/16" wall thickness. Finished with 4 coats of antique oil, buffed & a coat of Briwax.
Lovely stuff. I love the red patches and streaks that run through the wood. You did a very nice job of saving the bark. Looks like it was a bit tricky. Nice turning work you are sharing with us here. Thanks, Chris. 8)
Thanks Gil, yes the bark is about 1/4" thick in most spots and some like in the front are up to 1/2" thick, but those can break easily so I re-enforce them with a few drops of CA glue as they get thin during turning.
Must have been a good time for turning natural edge pieces. I turned one of black walnut that I'm finishing and will get a photo posted soon. You mentioned that you re-enforce the bark with CA glue. Have you ever had the glue bleach out the pigments from the bark and stain the wood? My walnut bowl did that pretty bad.
