Figured Maple, this salad bowl is 14 1/8" diameter x 5" tall and 5/8" wall thickness. The sorby texturing tool was used for the band & under the foot. Walnut oil finish.
Think I like this one a lot better than the sasafrass piece. Here, the proportions seems to fit better. Then again, it is all personal opinion isn't it. You probably already have a buyer for both pieces and that more important than what I think about a piece. Both are nice, but I do like this one better. You do good work my friend.
Thanks Rev, I do like this one better too but as far as both of them go I had to work within the blanks I had. And yes, I do have buyers for both of them already, one wanted a fruit bowl (sassafrass) and the other wanted a large salad bowl (this one).
Really like the banded look you got with the texturing tool. Could that be a possible candidate for a video? I'm afraid it's more of a 'get the feel of the tool' type of technique, though.
Actually Rick, that would be an easy video to do and it's not really a get a feel for the tool. The tool is mainly a matter of the speed and angle of presentation. I'll see able putting it online soon.
