Yet another great piece! Of course, somebody is bound to ask, "Did you ebonize the stem after the captive ring was turned, or is the stem/ring two pieces?
Thanks for the feed back. The stem is one piece of poplar carefully painted black the captured ring was coated with danish oil to deepen the effect. It's hard to see in this photo that the top is canted forward and is held by four prongs of the stem. I shouldhave aitbrushed a bit of gray on the tips of the prongs to show them off better. The chatter work on the base was done with the wheel of an old grinding wheel dresser. Oh well live and learn.
