My first weed pot. Slices were made before it was shaped. There is a central core about 3/4" in dia. and a 1/2" hole down the center. It is 6"x5", finished in BLO. The warping is about one day old, and is continuing. It had a nice flowing curve before it started to warp. It sort of looks like a stack of bologna.
Neat piece, Gary. I've seen a piece or two like this that were turned first and then sliced. I really like the concept. Guess I'll have to give it a spin. 8)
Did you try boiling it before you applied the blo? Or, did you intend for it to warp?
I did the slicing first in order to be able to get the center core to an even diameter. By marking the depth on my 1/16" parting tool I was able to be very accurate. I did not boil it, the intention was to let it warp.
Hey Gary, is your cousin a woodturner? I'd be interested in talking to him about getting some nice Madrone and such on one of his trips since we live in the same city.
