A variation of the Angel Wing bowl with curved "wings". This was turned from a green Mesquite log 8" in dia. and 16" long and inlaid with Turquoise. The completed bowl is 4" high, 5 1/2" wide, and 11" long.
Super work. I love the curve to the wings, something that most don't include. Really gives a suggestion of life to the piece. Not so sure about the turquoise though. More of a personal thing I guess. Just not crazy about blue/green mixed with the wood tones. I wouldn't toss it out though. Beautiful over all. 8-)
Interesting piece, nice shape but I don't care for the turquoise either, like Doug said, its a personal thing. I myself don't like turquoise as a filler in a piece's, but your design is very nice, nicely done.Wizzy
I'm amazed how many woodturners don't like the Turquoise inlay. Personally, I'm ambivalent about it, but would have to come down on the side of most of the woodturners - it distracts from the wood. There is quite a bit of inlay that isn't obvious from the picture in the radial cracks from the pith both inside and outside the bowl.
On the other hand, most of my customers love it. Go figure.
