This piece of Maple I found on the side of the road(road kill) last winter after a heavy wet snow.It is 8" wide and a total of 13 1/2" tall with a 4 " African Blackwood finial.I use the same wipe-on poly (clear gloss) on the body (6 coats) and just wax on the finial. Then buffed with the beall system.
Love your chosen form on this one Bob! The broad shoulder, small foot and faux collar just hit all my buttons. As always the finial is outstanding. So thin and delicate makes me wonder how you managed to keep it in one piece. That soft glow finish is the perfect topper too...Bill..
Oh as a ps...congrats on making the final on the "elegeant forms" competion. I believe yours was the best looking one posted and that is no smoke
All three of the hollow forms you've posted are beautiful. But this one really grabs my attention. I like the form and the finial is incredible. And the photo, something about the lighting, really shows it all off.
Thanks Brendan,Bill and cfuller for your kind words.... Bill I'm not certain I know what you mean, I didn't make the final in that elegant forms competition. But thanks for saying that.
It's the wood that makes it good
Bob,
I like all of these a lot, but I do like this one the most, no particular reason, I just do,, lovely work
Ruining lots of good wood to get a few average bits.
