Vase, Unknown wood.

Found a couple of large logs on the side of the road. I have driven past them for about a year and finally stopped to pick them up. I don't know what kind of wood it is. Any ideas? Judging by the location of the tree I'm guessing poplar or maybe sassafras. This is close to 10" tall. Finished with oil and wax and buffed.
