That is the most handsome piece I have seen all year! Your attention to detail is top shelf and the wood selected is a perfect choice. Thanks for sharing this piece...Bill...
Richard, just looked at more of your work and your photos are so cool they are works of art themselves, though this piece totally "goes to 11"www.regenbogenwoodturning.com
Hi Rodolfo The designs are just made up as I go along I turn the form down to the thickness and shape that I want and then just sit for a while until I get an idea that I think might look good I sometimes try and draw a basic layout but I am hopeless at drawing so that usually confuses me I generally put a design straight onto the bowl. The piercing is just random I was asked if I drew it in pencil first but again no I just start in one corner and then spend countless hours wandering across the form hoping I don't screw up.
I think the ideas for the design are in my head from just looking at things and going places from flowers to architecture everything has something interesting about it.
Hope this helps if you want to know more or wnat to pin something else down just ask I am sorry if its a bit vague its just how I work!
Beautiful piece, Excellent craftsmanship, A+++ to detail and an Outstanding job Richard. Your eye for detail is right on, this is by far some of your finest work. Wizzy
I use a dremel type multi tool with a flexy shaft in it I have a Klein Burr of various designs with the elm the pointy burr is good but usually I just use a straight burr. Keeping the speed low helps stop the scorching but after a short time the bit looses its edge and just scorches anyway.
