I've often seen these thick walled bowls, don't know if that is the correct term or not, and wanted to try make one. I ebonized the rim to try and accent the inner profile.
I don't like ebonizing...well, until now that you've just given me an attitude readjustment. This is very good and I like it. I like it so much I want to know how you did the ebonizing...please?
An article in a recent woodworking magazine outline an ebonizing process using a bark tea made from quebracho powder along with a solution of steel wool and vinegar. The quebracho introduces tannin into the wood, which reacts with the steel wool/vinegar solution. So you can use it on woods which don't have a high tannin content.
