This is interesting because the wood combination is lovely but I've looked at this loads of times and I can't decide if the box looks better without the lid than with it. If this were mine I would be in a real dilemma because I would be thinking the box could stand on its own but it's a real shame not to use the lid because it's good too. Decisions, decisions.....
Thanks guys, it was going to be my trade piece in our last C&T but I messed up the lid, didn't have enough to match up the grain so I set it aside, later I came up with this. Its a piece of the same mystery wood I sent Rev awhile back.
Brendan, I hear ya bud, I went with this lid after I turned it over and spilled the tooth picks a couple of times and had to pick em up.
Walt, the body isn't red oak, that much I know for sure, its too soft and has a real pleasant smell when turning, not that sour smell like oak.Wizzy
Both boxes turned out very nice. But theres something about the unlided one I really like. I'd like to see one turned on a larger scale from the same woods.
