My first winged bowl. Approx. 11" x 8" with a 7" diameter bowl. Finished with Watco Danish Oil. Wood is unknown. It was found by the road. It was likely an ornamental that got too big. The wood had bright red heartwood that dulled to orange when turned. Wood is rather soft. The piece used was a little oddly shaped, hence the bark inclusion and sapwood down the middle of the bowl. Bowl is turned thin (too thin). Sanded through a spot on the rim and had to repair. Almost sanded through the bottom and made a winged funnel. As such, it doesn't sit right since I couldn't get the bottom flat. It was fun and I learned much in making it.
Cool looking piece. The wood has a beautiful color and texture. Too bad you don't know what the wood is. It didn't smell like pine when you were turning it did it? 8-)
