well, believe it or not after sanding to 600 grit. i covered the entire surface with black magic marker. then i sanded it again taking most of the black back off in the center section. then i used some powdered carpet dyes mixed with water to recover it again. after that i lightly sanded and lacquered it. i would not recommend the maker idea, but it was the only thing i had that was dark enough. i have read about making your own ebonizing dyes but haven't tried it yet. i checked out your gallery and loved the dyed peices you have. please tell me what you use and how you get the color to transition so softly.
