MIL Box

I made this box with the help of Bob Hamilton's directions. It was for my Mother in law's birthday, and all her kids were supposed to put a letter in stating what a wonderful mother she is. Well I aint no letter writer so I made the box. Its not complete in the pic as I still needed to mortise the hinges, and you can see where I screwed up the placement of one of the hinges, so I had to fill a screw hole. She likes it though so that's all that matters. And I got out of writing a letter

Wow, great job! How did you get the dark edges on the end caps? Did you glue in a strip of dark wood before attaching them and splitting the box?
