Woo Hoo, this one is intact. Silver Birch, 5" x 3.25", wall thickness 1/8" to transparent, neck is 1/4" because I chickened out when the piece started screaming and flexing.
Way to go there Brendan. Sticking to it really paid off for you. That is an elegant looking foot on a great form. It is a lot harder keeping that flowing curve going from lip to foot than most would think it is!...Bill...
Real nice, but to be honest, I though you had the piece upside down until I read your post. Pretty wood and the grain is sweet to, I also like the ring on the foot, gives it some class. Nicely done Brendan, your getting their!!!Wizzy
I have a small steady rest (Sorby) but it's more for spindle work. I will have to build one because I think I'm going to be doing a lot more of this type of piece.
Mike brings up a great point. Take this same form and turn it upside down with the opening at the new top. What a beauty that would be? Bre, you really have done a nice job with this piece. This comment is by no means meant to be a criticism. Odd that a piece looks right either direction, but this one sure does. 8-)
Mike's comment got me thinking and I was considering doing another the other way up but the problem will be getting through the neck, however, if I make it bigger I can increase the width of the neck and keep the piece in proportion. Your comment has made me more enthusiastic about having a go so I'll see what I can do.
Yep Rev Doug, I've got it and I have had an idea for the next piece that will continue the theme. All will be revealed eventually, it will probably take me a couple of tries.
