Mike,
In appreciation for your nice wood donation to the WR membership drive, one of the ornaments is for you. My wife will keep the remaining one.
I am cheap. I don't buy expensive wood. Free wood, tree branches are mostly my source. Occasionally, I buy some hard maple for the finial. A board would last me a long time.
Robin and I both like the one on the right. Something about the way the swirl in the wood just pops when you look at it. Their both beautiful and mama and I are just happy that your willing to part with one of them, again, thank you.
Don,
The body is a hollowed natural edge globe. The finial is a multi-axis turning. Each twisted section is just a long cove. There is nothing new in woodturning - straight, concave (cove) or convex (bead). Finish each section before moving to a new axis.
These two are beautiful in this photo, but the photo doesn't do either justice, the one on the right arrived today and it is an outstanding piece of turning and I am very proud to be the new owner of the excellent work Gorden does... Thank you Gorden, mama and I are very pleased and happy!!! Wizzy
