I figure to make myself feel better after the frustration with the beech bowl I would post someting I did the other day that turned out good even though it really isn't done.
Looks nice, Phil. What more do you have to do to it? Looks like you've done a good job. I must say that your design skills have come a long way in the recent weeks. This piece, the OO, and the beech are all really nice.
Nice work Phil, I like the taper from center to the points and that the whole square is also the bowl. Rev's right, your work is definitely getting alot better recently. All it takes is that light to go on.
What it needs is the bottom hollowed out the tenon is in the bottom and I am planning on hollowing the base out if I can figure out how to reverse mount it. Thanks for the compliments guys, it really means a lot to me.
I like it all Philip. Great job!
You already have a tool made to turn the base, your DONUT CHUCK. I would turn a piece of soft wood [or stiff foam] to fit the curved inside the square and thick enough so the tips clear the chuck face. It might be good to pad between the soft wood and the square bowl surface and where the outer chuck ring contacts the bowl bottom.
Mine is definitly purpleheart, purpleheart will eventually turn brown as it ages. I have heard though that if you set it in the sun, the purple color will return. I am gonna have to check that out someday. I wonder if it will work even after the finish is on.
