The coin dispenser was an idea that had been brewing for awhile born of my frustration that the comercial ones had places for nickles dimes and quarters but not for pennies. The first one I did was just made from a board before I had a lathe. When I got my Jet mini, I thought I could do one that would fit in a cup holder. It is quite simple. I turned a solid blank to the right dimensions (leaving the center part about 1/8" high) and drilled four holes for the coins. I believe I used a 1" drill for the quarter, 7/8" for the nickles, and 3/4 for both pennies and dimes. I got four light springs from the hardware store and turned caps to fit inside the holes and over the springs. The top is a disk of cedar left over from another turning. The design could use some improvement. It dispenses quarters and dimes well because of the groved edges and the size of the quarter. Nickles dispense quite well because of their size. Pennies however don't dispense as well as I would like. They are small and smooth edged so it's a little harder to roll them out. I filed away one side of the lip of the hole to make it easier. It would also probably work better if the cap were a bit smaller or if I had placed the penny hole closer to the edge of the block. Feel free to copy and to improve the design.
