Description: This is a expantion of the idea from my last post. I have moved the lip to the inside so the lid can be removed simply by pressing on the outside. Thanks to Matt Heffron for the idea. And thanks to Jeff Lavine for the toroid idea and the comment about rounding the bottom of the inside for easier retrival of contents. The dize is 7"x2.5". The curly maple lid is finished with boiled linseed oil. and the Rosewood base is finished with Mahoneys Walnut oil. All comments and critiques are always welcome.
Another very well executed design. Colors and grain go nicely together, the inside and outside curves are fluid. No doubt you have more ideas like this, and I would think that the box would look very good with a central lidded box, with finial (or just an open center box/bowl). I do like it! My first thought as the picture materialized, was that, closed, it looks like an angel food cake in its pan. (I am fond of angel food cake)
Hey Gary, looks like you found your niche! This is an excellent idea as was the first one, but I do like this design better. Unique in it's execution, the curves, lid mounting and color match are perfect. No critique necessary my friend!
Sweeeeeet, Gary. I really like what you did here. I understand the comment about getting the contents of the outer easier, but you have lost the inner bowl. maybe that could be a thick section that would add some weight to the piece as a whole. It would be cool to have another lid over an inner bowl. I'm a bit like Phil. I may have to give this one a whirl. 8)
