These 2 Crepe Myrtle bowls came from a tree that was over 60 years old and destroyed during Hurricane Gustav. The top 3 pictures are different views of a bowl that measured 13" x 2.5". The bowl in the bottom 2 pics measured at 6.5" x 4". It was "Frankenstined" back to health using a mixture of epoxy and coffee grounds. My customer commissioned me to make these bowls to give to his mother; she really loved that tree and sat under it everyday. www.perfectwoodworks.com
I thought Crepe Myrtle should be good looking wood. Those will be greatly appreciated Leo. I was going to fuss a little about the straight sides of the top one, but at 13" I can see how it would work. Curious about that design, was it what was asked for or did the wood do a bit of dictating the design?
He wanted a flat bottomed bowl, and the wood kind of dictated the final outcome. I've seen younger Crepe Myrtles, but none with this kind of character. Just goes to prove that the older we get, the more character we develop. It's true for trees also.
