Description: To end my wide rim adventure for a while. I made this Ambrosia Maple Wide rim bowl with a surprise. It is 7.5"x2". Insert is Babinga. Ambrosia maple bowl is finished with wipe on poly, and the Babinga insert is buffed and waxed. I got the idea while looking at my last wide rim piece. The textured aria looked almost like it could come out. Was fun turning the inside bowl. I used a small hollowing tool, with the lathe running in reverse. As always all comments and critiques most welcome.
Gary, I love it on WC. I still love it. Very nice. The two woods complement each other very well. Thanks for sharing it with us on this board as well. 8)
Thanks for the comments. It was a lot of fun to turn. cfuller, the ring started out as a 8"x8"x1/2" board. Cut a circle on the band saw then mounted between centers. Marked out the desired ring with a parting tool, then created the crown. Turned down the thickness from the back to about 3/16" in the middle of the ring. Then using a thin parting tool parted off the ring portion using my left hand to catch the ring when it come off. This left me holding the ring with a 4" disc still between centers. Ring was then buffed and waxed. I hope this is clear enough, much eazier to do then say.
