small Gidgee bowl 5"x4" finished with a friction polish. Although as a hard wood it can take a very good finish with just a good polish. Great stuff to turn, wish I had a truck load of it
Pretty wood. Simple straight grain, but the color is fantastic. Looks like you did a great turning and sanding job on it. The finish looks flawless. I'm ont familiar with this wood at all, but I'm thinking I'd like some of it. Guess Mr. Google and I are going to spend some time together to learn a bit more about it. Beautiful piece. 8-)
Gidgee comes from Australia, generally it comes from the desert region. Its not common to find a larger pieces as the tree tends to hollow out in the centre as it gets old. So if you have a 18" dia it may well have a 3-5" hole down the centre. grrhh!
As to turning its like plastic and you can get a very high degree of polish with out varnish or any other type finish.
