Very nice piece. What do you mean by oil soaking on and off? Did you completely submerge it in oil? Please explain.

Pretty cool piece, Gary. Looks like the neck, if nothing else, is really nice and thin. I might have liked to seen the top funnel to be a bit longer, but it really is nice just the way it is. I still think you come up with the best looking wood around. 8-)
Bertminator, like many who turn Norfolk Island Pine, I go through a process that consists of submerging the piece in a mix of oils, (Tung oil, Danish oil, mineral spirits, any oil finish that I have left over or laying around.) First soak lasts about 4 days to a week. than the piece is dried and lightly sanded. Back in the oil for 24hrs, than dried and sanded again. This is repeated sometimes up to ten times, untill the wood takes on a translucent quality. A cote of straight danish oil follows than when dry buffing or a coat of Poly. this can work with some other pine spices as well.
Rev. the whole piece is translucent but only the rim shows it in the pic.
