Afrizilia Box

My friend John gave me this wood on the condition that I make him a box from some of it. It's 3" tall and the lid is 1 3/4" in diameter. It's finished with Lee Valley Polymerized Tung Oil.

Keith, the box is attractive and uncomplicated, in an elegant manner. Afrizilla wood is a new one on me, but very good-looking.

Might that possibly be Afzelia? That is listed and shown in the "Exotic Wood Pictures" website.

Duck got the name right. I figured I had spelled it wrong. It was actually marked Afzelia x-y lay. I think the wood is from Asia. Yes I think I'm getting the touch back. I have finished two bowls with no problem and the box. I've also done a small vase from a piece of Black Gum Burl but I don't like the foot on it so I've got a little more work to do on it yet.
